Catching Up

Here is August Hat, all finished and ready to join the hat pile:


I sucked it up and ripped out the super cute socks, and will start them again in a smaller size:


I was out for most of the afternoon today, and upon my arrival home the deer stared at me with some measure of disinterest - they were more concerned with what Oogyhubby was doing with that machine that cuts their grass so short!

Colorful Booties and Socks

It is the Year of Colorwork, but mostly what I've done so far is produce a few color ful items!  I've been making this baby bootie pattern for years, mostly from leftover sock yarns.  This particular yarn is what remained from last fall's Flamewalker Socks .  That these booties stand up all by their jaunty selves makes them particularly appealing. These are  Crazy For You socks.  They haven't told me yet exactly whom they are crazy for , but I'll let them ponder that for a while.  It appears I may have caught a bit of Knitting New England's Tangerine Tango  with all of these orangey colors!

Poisons

Macinnis, Peter (2004). Poisons: From Hemlock to Botox and the Killer Bean of Calabar. New York: Arcade Publishing. From the author’s web site : "As usual, I am interested in the people, their interactions and the social effects that poisons have had, as well as the science. There is an exquisite beauty in the way tetrodotoxin is made harmless to its hosts, the way a wasp moth vomits over its mate, or the way a mongoose withstands the venom of the cobra. " In his book, Macinnis endeavors to describe poisonous compounds and their science, relate which historical figures are implicated in the use of these poisons, and document how these poisons are referred to literature. He then attempts to weave all of these aspects together.
