Thing A Month - May - Knitting Backwards

Image
Dear Neuro, I'm so glad you suggested that we make Grey Gardens !  It's a terrific pattern with very helpful details.  I not only learned a lot about the construction of entrelac, but I also had the chance to practice on bigger yarn and needles.  The knitting backwards part was pretty easy in the end (thanks to VeryPinkKnits ) , although it was often times way less fiddly to turn the work (especially at the edges) than to attempt a backwards K2tog.  Here is Kylie modeling the finished item: I gave up on the original pattern I'd selected for the entrelac socks, and ended up fashioning my own, using some tips derived from the combination of several different patterns.  With a bit of puzzling as to how to do this in the round, and with the realization that entrelac is knit on the bias so some creative decreasing/increasing is needed at the cuff and ankle, I am off to the races: It's funny how the self-striping yarn makes these color changes look deliberat...

Oh, That's Something

Drachenschwanz , made with Cherry Tree Hill Fingerpaints in Pacific Rim (it's a little greener than it looks here): Yarn for Entrelac socks, patiently awaiting a provisional cast-on (you have heard of cuff-down, and toe-up, but this one is "heel-out" - starts at the heel and works up and down - fortunately not at the same time!): Yarn for Grey Gardens, patiently awaiting my decision regarding needle size:

Thing A Month - Decisions

Dear Neuro, Not only do you make beautiful placemats and scarves, but you are also very wise!   Your post about beginning new things but not necessarily finishing them has freed me from inkle loom despair.  I'll tell you some more about this shortly, when I've done it right and actually produced something, but for now let me just say that my heddles are too long, and I need a do-over. In the meantime, I'll be making these with this , after I've practiced on this with this . Love, Oogy

April Thing A Month - Textured Weaving

Image
Dear Neuro, I have absolutely no idea how this is going to turn out, but for our April project I will be attempting inkle loom weaving.  For the first time.  On an inkle loom.  Without you. Eeek!! And, while it may appear that I'm off to a rather late start for this April project, it is snowing here today and, as you know, I am neither in Canada nor Alaska as I say this.  I will, therefore, attribute at least some of my delay to utter confusion regarding time of year. By the way, your placemats look awesome!!! Love, Oogy

Thing A Month - March - Two Socks at a Time

Image
Dear Neuro, I am pretending that it is still March and that I'm not so far behind with our schedule.  I've even convinced the weather to postpone Spring until I can get myself organized. The O is for Oogy socks are finally done, both knit at the same time and from one of those fun dyed sock blank you sent! While this is still not my favorite technique, I do acknowledge that it would otherwise be difficult to knit from a double-stranded sock blank dyed specifically for me by a good friend. In the meantime, I've cast on a sock pattern with colorwork and will be reporting on my experience with the Magic Loop technique (vs. DPNs) in the weeks to come, as a continuation of our Feb/Mar experimentation with non-DPN sock construction. Other non-weaving projects include some replacement slippers for my mom, by special request.  I've been making these for years, and she keeps wearing them out - no small feat with acrylic rug yarn, 2 layers thick! I hope to be warping...

Final Bootie Call

Thing A Month - A Pair of Pairs

Image
Dear Neuro, Although I am temporarily obsessed with bootie production, that will be winding down soon and March project progress will continue once again, in earnest. I've got a pair of two-at-a-time top-downs as well as a pair of toe-ups (using your O is for Oogy yarn!) underway, and would looooove to have them all mostly done by the end of this month: We'll see how that goes!  Bootie 12 of 12 is in progress, more to come soon! Love, Oogy P.S.  I should just say now that I probably cheated with the toe-ups - I started the Magic Cast-On using DPNs, after several unsuccessful attempts using the circulars (things kept getting turned around backwards somehow!)
