Winter Solstice Optimism
Happy Winter Solstice Holidays to all! It seems that our typically cloudy and depressing winter weather here has been (likely temporarily, but I'll take it) replaced by strange warmth and some sunshine. Which makes my optimism even more exuberant. It only gets brighter from here!!! I hope you all enjoy spending time with your friends and family - even phone and Skype can be enriching!
Spurred by this optimism, and Neuro's 2020 Cowl Theme suggestion, I went a little mad yesterday. First of all, we have the CWA at 75%:
Here is a close-up of the latest (and third) large square:
I will definitely need another skein of the black (not sure where the second one went - it's needed for the border, but perhaps I borrowed it at some point, just like I did with the mitts kit and Cold As?), but even the prospect of having to order more of everything is undaunting. The yarn is still in production, is not terribly expensive, and leftovers can be used for hats (and perhaps cowls, lol!!!). I'll see what happens as I delve further into the last large square, which could start as early as later today!!
Also, as we were running out the other evening, I needed something warmer to wear. I grabbed Veronika, hastily applied the JUL clasp that Neuro had given me a billion years ago (and that is absolutely perfect for this garment so it was worth the wait!), and ran off. It looked amazing and worked great, but you can see here that I was way off in terms of an optimal final position:
Fortunately, the attachments are screwed on and not permanent - so I can adjust. A brilliant design feature, I must say - and, again, amazing (dare I say badass?) hardware. I'm already taking some cuff inspiration from the JUL web site, so I think there will be some further action in that regard for the coming year (Year of Badass Cowls??).
The event that I was running to whilst wearing Veronika was hosted by the intended recipient of the yoga socks I'd made earlier this year (in anticipation of exactly that event!). She received these just as enthusiastically as she's received all the others through the years, and even mentioned that she has been sharing some of them with her hubby and SIL, both of whom are also yoga devotees. This coming year, I've decided that I'm going to make two pair - one for Yoga, and the second for her to share (either with Yogahubby or YogaSIL). The fun never ends!
And - I already have an idea for a cowl I'd like to make for someone who has been helpful to me this past year, using laceweight that is doubled. I also have an idea for an accompanying cuff. We'll see how this whole thing progresses - there is still a ton of stuff in queue as well (most acutely the slippers for me, and December Hat!).
Oogyhubby is taking advantage of the nicer weather today to walk/discover our property perimeter out in the woods, as well as to hang No Hunting signs all about. There isn't much snow left on the ground, so I don't know if he'll have any wildlife stories to tell, but I will definitely keep you posted (pun intended!!).
